What is a commercial board game?

Penelope Armond: It depends on who's asking. The standard definition for that would be one that is commercially produced and sold: Candy Land, Sorry, Life, etc etc etc. If you have seen this term in a specific context, please share that context. It might even mean something like Monopoly, where things are bought and sold. Generally, however, it just means a board game that is commercially made and sold.

Jesse Japak: A commercial board game is one that is marketed as a brand, like Monopoly or Scrabble. This is as opposed to traditional board games. An example of the latter would be a classic strategy game like chess. Yes, you can buy a chess set, but no one owns the rights to chess.
