Filiberto Ranalli: Hows this......we ban every vehicle that gets more then 10 miles per gallon of fuel, we burn every bit of fossil fuel as we can, let ban electric heaters and only use gas heat.....etc !This will speed up the use of oil, which we keep getting told we are running out of ! Once we are totally out of oil then the air would start to clear, the ozone will cure itself, the sky will turn blue and we will live in happy happy places for ever and ever ! No more global warming or cooling, no more terrible weather anywhere on the earth, trees and food will grow at twice the speed because of all the clean air....this will solve the problems....right ???????????????????????

Theresia Fashaw: Here's a long answer. If you want to read it all you might wish to grab yourself a coffee...There are several things that can be done including reducing dependency on fossil fuels, recycling, becoming more energy efficient, offsetting carbon emissions and using technology to combat global warming.ENERGY EFFICIENCY AT HOMEâ When replacing appliances buy energy efficient ones. â Turn off electrical appliances when not in use, donât use the standby option. â Use energy efficient light bulbs and switch off lights when not in use. â Fit individual thermostats to radiators and don't heat rooms that aren't used. â Insulate walls, lofts, hot water tanks and pipes. â Turn your heating and air conditioning down, a small difference will be barely noticeable. â Similarly, turn down water heating by a few ! degrees. â Sign up to a green energy supplier, one that produces energy from renewable sources. â Turn off heating and air-conditioning when the house is unoccupied. â Wash full loads of clothes at a lower temperature; modern machines and detergents are just as effective at lower temperatures. â Dry your clothes outdoors instead of in a tumble drier. â Wash full loads in the dishwasher. â Insulate your home and block draughts around doors and windows. In Europe this is free to many people. â Consider installing a renewable energy system such as solar panels or a home wind turbine. â Use rechargeable batteries; donât leave rechargers on for longer than is needed (including mobile / cell-phones). â Boil only as much water in the kettle as you need. â Buy locally produced organic food where possible, there's less transportation and the farming methods are more environmentally friendly. â Look where goods were manufactured and avoid buying those that ha! ve been flown or shipped long distances. â Recycle and reuse as much ! as possible. Sign up with mail preferential services to stop junk mail. â Avoid buying products with excessive packaging. â Donât have your fridge or freezer set lower than need to be, regularly defrost freezers, donât put hot food into your fridge or freezer. â If your fridge or freezer is over 15 years old then consider replacing it (check with local authority regarding disposal of old one). â Work from home where possible. â Eat less meat and dairy produce, farming produces large quantities of greenhouse gases. ENERGY EFFICIENT TRAVELLINGFor many people a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions can be achieved by driving a more fuel-efficient vehicle. Each gallon of gasoline burned produces 10kg (20 pounds) of carbon dioxide. A motorist driving 15,000 miles a year in a vehicle that delivers 30mpg will produce 5000kg of carbon emissions whereas a vehicle returning 50mpg will produce 3000kg. â Drive a fuel-efficient vehicle, if you have more! than one vehicle then use the most economical one more often. â Consider walking or cycling when going to work or taking the kids to schools, if you have to drive then consider car sharing. â Use public transport where possible and consider taking a coach or train instead of using domestic flights. â When replacing your vehicle look at diesel and liquid petroleum gas models. â Combine multiple journeys into one and do your weekly shopping in a single trip. â Stagger journeys where possible to avoid rush hour traffic and hold ups. FUEL SAVING TIPS FOR DRIVERSBy driving carefully and keeping your vehicle in good condition you can save up to 30% on your fuel bills and cut greenhouse gas emissions at the same time. Below are some tips for increasing fuel efficiency.â Avoid harsh braking, accelerate gently and drive at a steady speed. â Keep tyres inflated to the correct pressure. â Remove bike and ski racks when not in use, also remove detachable roof racks,! luggage boxes etc. â Carrying unnecessary weight wastes fuel, declut! ter your vehicle. â Use the correct gear and use cruise control if your vehicle has it. â Keep your vehicle regularly services. â Turn the engine off when stopped or waiting. This is a measure of the environmental impact in terms of the amount! of greenhouses gases produced; it is measured as the equivalent number of units of carbon dioxide. The global average is 5 tons per person per year, in developed nations the average is 11 tons and in the US it is 19 tons.Carbon Offsetting is one way to reduce or eliminate your carbon footprint; in most cases this involves calculating your greenhouse gas emissions and planting trees so as to absorb an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide. Some websites where you can calculate your carbon footprint and purchase offsetting are:The Woodland Trust - http://www.carbonbalanced.org/Carbon Footprint - http://www.carbonfootprint.com/USA/calculator.htmlThe Carbon Neutral Company - http://www.carbonneutral.com/pinfo/carbonoffsettin...My Climate - http://www.myclimate.org/index.php?lang=enAtmosfair - http://www.atmosfair.de/index.php?id=9&L=3 -------------------------GEOENGINEERING (CLIMATE ENGINEERING) Ambitious schemes have been proposed that would manipulate our climate through ge! oengineering. These contentious schemes include constructing a giant s! unscreen to block out some of the sunâs heat and artificial trees to extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. If these schemes are successful they could prevent global warming from getting worse and may be reverse the warming trend.â Human VolcanoVolcanic eruptions emit large quantities of sulphur dioxide that blocks out some of the heat from the sun. Following the massive eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991 the average global temperature fell by 0.5°C. One proposal is to simulate natural volcanoes by firing pellets of sulphur into the upper atmosphere where the particles of sulphur will reflect back some of the solar radiation. â Sulphur BlanketNobel Prize winner Professor Paul Crutzen has put forward a scheme which, like the Human Volcano, uses the principle of sulphur to block out some of the suns rays. Professor Crutzen's idea is to launch rockets into the stratosphere (10 to 50km above Earth's surface) and release one million tons of sulphur. This radical ! plan could have drawbacks including an increase in acid rain and damage to the ozone layer. At low levels sulphur dioxide is a toxic gas and in the past was emitted in large quantities from factories; ironically the Clean Air Acts, which reduced industrial pollution, removed much of the cooling sulphur dioxide from out atmosphere. â Solar MirrorsThe US National Academy of Sciences has proposed a scheme that would involve positioning 55,000 gigantic mirrors in space. Each mirror would be 100 square kilometres in area and the effect would be to reflect some of the sun's heat energy back into space. For the time being neither the technology nor financial resources exist to enable such a scheme to go ahead. â Global SunshadeA similar scheme to the space mirrors idea involves placing a giant sunshade in orbit between the sun and Earth. British astronomer Roger Angel has proposed creating such a shade some 1.5 million miles from earth, at the point where gravity from the ! sun and the earth balance. His sunshade would consist of 16 trillion i! ndividual glass discs, each one microscopically thin and weighing just one gram. On board each disc would be a tiny camera, computer and solar sails allowing each disc to align itself so as to refract light from the sun just enough so it misses Earth. Angel proposes using electro magnetically propelled launches, each one delivering a million discs into space. â Moving EarthPerhaps the most ambitious of all schemes so far proposed is one to actually move planet Earth into a different orbit. It has been estimated that if Earth were 1.5 million miles further from the sun then the reduced heat energy received from the sun would compensate for anthropogenic global warming. Dr Ken Caldiera of Stanford University, an opponent of geoengineering, has calculated that the energy required to move the Earth this far would be the equivalent of 5 quadrillion hydrogen bombs (5,000,000,000,000,000). â Cloud SeedingCloud seeding isn't a new concept and is one that has been tried with! some success as a way of bringing rainfall to dry areas. One variation on this theme is to launch a fleet of self-propelled vessels to sail the world's oceans and spray a fine mist of seawater particles into the atmosphere. Marine Stratocumuli clouds form over much of the world's oceans and they're particularly effective at reflecting sunlight back into space. Professors John Latham and Stephen Salter from the UK believe that by increasing the number of such clouds, enough heat from the sun can be reflected back into space to offset global warming. â Artificial TreesA school science project provided the inspiration for Professor Klaus Lackner's concept of using artificial trees to extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Air passes through the device and hydrogen sulphide absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, each 'tree' could remove 90,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year. The carbon dioxide would need to be permanently stored and the professor believes t! his could be achieved by drilling holes thousands of metres deep into p! orous rock beneath the oceans; the CO2 would be injected into the holes where it would permeate the surrounding rock. â PhytoplanktonPhytoplankton are microscopic marine plants, invisible to the naked eye but visible from space as blooms of green ocean. Like all plants they photosynthesise - taking in carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Increasing the quantity of phytoplankton will result in more carbon dioxide being absorbed and when the plants die they sink to the ocean floor taking the carbon with them. Professor Ian Jones of Sydney University advocates that by using nitrogen rich urea to enrich parts of the oceans low in phytoplankton their numbers can be significantly increased. â More About These SchemesSome of these ideas formed part of a BBC documentary 'Five Ways To Save The World' you can read more about them on the BBC Website http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/6298507.stm watch the programme trailer http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_6360000/ne..! . or watch the programme in full from Google Video http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2860004250......Show more

MAN CAUSED GLOBAL WARMING DOES NOT EXIST, IT IS BASED ON BOGUS SCIENCE FOR BRAIN DEAD IDIOTS INCAPABLE OF THINKING FOR THEMSELVES SO AL GORE CAN GET RICH AND POWERFUL AND YOU CAN PAY FOR CARBON OFFSETS, CAP AND TAX AND HIGHER ENERGY COSTS.WAKE UP YOU FOOLS.THIS IS AN ANSWER I GAVE TO ANOTHER QUESTION no sense in reinventing the wheel.Global warming is based on bogus science ascribed to by foolish people who cannot see the folly or the purpose for such balderdash. Al Gore (who claims to have invented the Internet) has ulterior motives for pushing this crap around as science, he is making millions of dollars off the gullible wackos. Keep in mind ! Al Gore, who started the big push on global warming (âAn Inconvenient Truthâ) is also involved as was his father, in Occidental Petroleum and Coal and is also suspected of graft as is George Bush. According to âGore's Oil Moneyâ By Ken Silverstein which appeared in the May 22, 2000 edition of The Nation. â In 1998, the US government sold the Elk Hills naval petroleum reserve to Occidental for $3.65 billion. According to the government, the reserve was no longer strategically necessary, and the reserve was sold to reduce the national debt and the size of the government. Critics cited the "no-bid" nature of the sale, together with Vice President Al Gore's involvement with the company as evidence of graft.â http://www.thenation.com/doc/20000522/silverstein Hypocrite? Of course. Now he is not only making money from coal and oil, he is cashing in on the sale of carbon credits and in this country if they can shove it down our throats, Cap and Trade or Cap and Tax ! same thing. It is a blatant grab for power and wealth as well as the s! ubjugation of billions of people around the world.Keep in mind all life on this planet is carbon based, we, like all animals breath in air (oxygen) and exhale CO2 (a supposed greenhouse gas), CO2 that plants use in respiration and photosynthesis and give back oxygen.TO Alexander: NOW CALLING HIMSELF J Bloggs!!!!âAnd, Eklektic, I am amazed at your naivety, global warming is not a conspiracy designed by Al Gore... âWhy should you be amazed at my naivete (NAIVETE) you donât even know me? I reread my statement several times trying to find where I called global warming a conspiracy but I can not find it. So I must take your word for it, you are the superior liberal, with the superior intelligence.âunless you're going to tell me that independent scientists around the world are all under payment from 'Gore.â Damn, you are smart, again I looked all over trying to find where I said that any SCIENTIST, independent or otherwise, were on Al Goreâs payroll, I couldnât f! ind it either. However, I would not be shocked to find scientist on his payroll, since he owned Occidental Coal, Oil and Occidental Chemical. âSecondly you say global warming is being used for the "subjugation of billions people around the world.", Did I say global warming was being used for the subjugation of billions people around the world? Oh! I thought I said Al Goreâs push for the sale of carbon credits and Cap and Trade.âThat clearly shows that you have little understanding about solutions to global warming; the most significant of which, renewable energy, results in decentralisation and more independence, not less.âWhat renewable energy all of the dams providing clean, nearly free hydro-power, that the wackoâs plan to tear out and in fact have started doing. Oh, you must be talking about the ugly bird killing wind power that even T. Boone Pickens has started backing away from, at least until he figures how to cash in on it. Were you talking about the ef! ficient cheap solar power because I know you were not talking about cle! an nuclear power unless Westinghouse sells out to GE, wait General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt, a left-wing panderer, is an Obama cabinet member. Now there is a great idea independent federal government run power company by General Electric and Westinghouse sounds like some sort of oxymoron. Decentralization? You are not allowed to make up things and have an intelligent discussion. Jeesh, talk about naivete. There are no solutions for global warming in bogus science kid. Moreover, where is your proof that it is man caused? We canât even predict the weather from day to day but you superior idiots want us to believe you can predict global warming years from now. I have news for you, a warm earth and the end of the ice age we have been in for 2.5 to 3million years is inevitable. When? NO one knows, not even you brilliant liberals. âFinally, you make another astonishing point, that yet again shows your distinct lack of understanding by suggesting that air only consis! ts of oxygen and that carbon dioxide is possibly not a greenhouse gas, despite this being known since the 1800's!âWell arenât you the brilliant one, just where in my answer did I suggest that air consisted only of Oxygen? If you did your homework occasionally, you dunce, you would not draw such ignorant conclusions. If I do not except that global warming is man caused then I would also not except that CO2 is a main greenhouse gas. Moreover, roughly 95% of the greenhouse effect is from water vapor, common knowledge among climatologists. A fact that is under-emphasized or just ignored altogether by special interests, certain governmental groups, and news reporters. You need to know who you are trying to smack talk to and argue with and if you are academically prepared and experienced enough for the task. Collin Barter: Yes, I believe we have an obligation to help Global Warming. Global Warming is mostly caused by man. The pollution going into the atmosphere, the forests being cut down the trees help to store a lot of carbon dioxide in their wood. We need to reduce it because the people play the biggest role on Global Warming. Man has caused most of it. Global Warming does not affect just one area it affects every place on the globe. Tobie Oshea: I presume you mean what can we do to speed up getting a solution to global warming. I believe that the answer to that question lies in politics; we have all the science and technology necessary, its just that it doesn't have all the backing it desperately needs from politicians.Hopefully a big push will be made on this issue at Copenhagen, where world leaders will gather to make an agreement on tackling climate change later this year...or at least that's the plan...developing nations may prove to be a significant barrier in what must be a worldwide cooperation; they argue that its not their fault that global warming started, so why should they bear the burden of solving it? This issue must be tackled if we hope to prevent what could quite possibly be a global catastrophe. And, Eklektic, I am amazed at your naivety, global warming is not a conspiracy! designed by Al Gore...unless you're going to tell me that independent scientists around the world are all under payment from 'Gore. Kenneth Blacker: No. There is no scientific reason to think the Earth will warm more than a degree or two above what it would have been. The extra CO2 and warmth is almost certainly going to be entirely beneficial. I realize that it is heresy in the religion of left to suggest that something man! does isn't poison but the problem is actually a blessing. Troy Staton: The phenomenon you are referring to is an imaginary concept. The earth warms and cools in cycles. There isn't much you as an individual can do about it. The important thing once you understand, is not to promote the concept of so-called "global warming".

Darren Heling: Global warming, this is probably the most pressing, and the important issue that the world must face.I used to say, the key is knowledge. ; We should encourage more people to know what is going to happen in the next 100 year if we don't combat global warming! kind of thing. But now, I feel that it is not enough. Al Gore has made us the film, we see commercials about global warming, Now we all know that half of the population will be gone for loss of water in the next 100 ye! ars, caused by global warming. I think we need to do more than "gaining knowledge".Media encourages people to turn the lights off, turn the air conditioner off, stop doing things that harm the environment in our daily lives. Because ovbiously, because these small things in our lives built up to where the earth faces distruction. It's been a while ever since the population has realized that something must be done. Like an action must be taken. But nothing has changed, and the reality is getting worse. Why? It's because of humanity's self-centred minds. So, in order to combat global warming, I think that alternative methods of energy production must become economically viable. The key is to combine personal economic interest with environmental betterness. A project like CO2 Trading can be an example of this. A project which people can take the advantage of(meaning getting involved in the project becomes "profit" for us people), and at the same time contribues well to the envi! ronment, is what we need. And look at how many volcanoes erupt per year. And we're still doing fine. Besides, carbon dioxide makes up less than 1% of the atmosphere around 90% of the atmosphere is made up of nitrogen and oxygen. David Kuper: Of course we have a moral obligation to do something about global warming. It is particularly important that those countries with high per- capita and high total emissions to lead the way since they are the ones whose have done the most damage to the planet. It would certainly be unethical for those nations who have done the damage to treat the issue as situation normal while they continue to emit and profit, while the nations that have been unwilling bystanders or worst, victims of global progress and greed suffer from our excesses. To do something about the problem created by us is not socialism, to remedy the problem or to limit the impact on other is not socialism, it is the right ! thing to do by aiding those threatened by the complications of heat, wi! nd, and water brought on by global warming. Those that claim it is socialism are in typical neo-con fashion attempting to manipulate opinion through fear. It is only a matter of time when these people become very desperate and attempt to connect those concerned about global warming with terrorism. On a side note, I have my doubts those that foster the fear even realize the necessity of a certain degree of socialism in every society. How does a society function without a socialised fire service, police service or armed forces, no matter how you argue the facts these organisations are in fact socialism in your system under the control of governments? Had the US accepted a little more government control in their financial system and a little less neo-con unrestricted capitalism, the world would not be in the financial mess it is in today.
