Daren Ventrice: You need to go out with him and praise him for going outside. Rewarding him for doing what you want him to do is far more effective than punishing him for doing bad. Rubbing his nose or spanking him is not going to work. All you're teaching him is to be nervous around you because he never knows when you might go off and smack him for reasons that he doesn't understand. You must keep him in the room with you and watch him. When he begins to show signs of being about to go potty you must take him outside on a leash. Take him to the same part of the yard all the time and do not play at all, this is business. When he goes potty, verbally praise him as if he just performed the most amazing act ever. Rinse and repeat over and over and over until he learns. Approx 4-8 wks I would guess. At first you may have to take him out every 20-30 min. This will take a fair amount of your time for awhile. Training a puppy is work but it will pay off. Also, at night or anytim! e you're not there and can't watch him he can't have run of the house. He either needs to be in a crate or outside exclusively.
