Car A is traveling at 50mph and Car B is traveling at 80mph. How fast does Car A see Car B moving away?

Kim Gerbino: 30 mph.velocity is a relative thing. what you want to know is: how much faster is car b going than car a? 80-50 is 30, there is your answer.

Lia Argall: 130 mph. If Car A is still travelling 50 mph in one direction, lets say the Positive X direction, and car B is going 80 mph in the negative X direction, then the total speed that they are moving away from each other is 130 mph.In other words, one hour after they both pass each other they will be 130 miles apart.---------Edit:If they are both moving in the same direction then the answer is 30 mph....Show more

Penelope Armond: If car A and car B are going the same direction, it is 80-50 = 30 mph.If they are going opposite directions, it is 80+50 = 130 mph.
