Boston transportation...?

Ester Bryand: I live in Boston and travel to New York City frequently. The public transportation is not as advanced in Boston as it is in New York City. Most people in Boston own cars unlike in New York City it is difficult to find someone who owns a car. In Boston, there isn't nearly as many bus lines or train lines. As a result, not every one lives near a train station or bus stop in Boston. Also, the public transportation system in Boston does not run 24 hours a day. After about 12:30-1:00 A.M your either going to have to drive home, take a taxi, or walk....Show more

Ty Kirton: Boston's T rail system is not as thorough or reliable as New York's MTA subway system, but Boston was high on a list of most walkable cities, released this week. (Washington, Manhattan, and San Francisco were top 3, Tampa was dead last.)

Brock Anwar: Not AS much as NYC, but I think it's very possible to not own a car and live here. You can get around on the train, and parking is very! expensive regardless. Boston is more walkable than other cities.

Dale Mccoun: I would say maybe it's not as advanced as in NYC, but it's still more extensive than a lot of cities. I live in Boston and actually don't have a car - I'm in my mid-20s and don't have a family though and I live in one of the "younger" sections of the city where there are a lot of students and recent graduates so there are a lot of people in my situation who live in my neighborhood. I know many people who don't have cars. The public transit here is good enough that I don't need a car. And they have Zipcar where you can rent a car by the hour if you need to - I've used that and it works wonderfully. And I have a monthly pass for unlimited travel on the subway and buses - and it's only $59 a month so it's certainly cheap enough. SO the short answer is the public transit here isn't quite NYC, but it works and it's possible to live in some parts of the city without a car. I've been doing i! t for over four years now. Also as someone else said, Boston ! was just listed as one of the most "walkable" cities in the country which of course is a good thing....Show more

Alexandria Popik: I think Boston has a much easier to understand rail system. You can go all over Boston and Cambridge without a car-no problem.
